This tunnel under London is a 1960s time capsule.

Being the oldest subway system in the world, the London underground has chopped and changed a bit in its time. Continual redevelopments since its beginnings in the 1860s right up to the present day has left it famous for ghost stations, disused buildings and lost tunnels.

Indeed, those tunnels lurking under Euston station are some of the most eery. Sealed in 1960 as part of accommodating the new Victoria line, the engineers froze a cultural snapshot in time.

Still today these tunnels’ walls are adorned with the rotting advertisements of the era, including original posters for Pyshco, Coronation Street and Spartacus.

And if you are lucky enough to get a guided tour, you’ll also have the satisfaction of peering down onto unsuspecting travellers through ventilation shafts. Neat.
